Vitamin D · 9 min · Launch draft
Key takeaways
- Vitamin D matters to John's personal pattern.
- Oral Vitamin D evidence for psoriasis is mixed.
- Testing and clinician-guided deficiency correction is the safest public advice.
My personal pattern
Sunshine has been one of the most obvious patterns in my psoriasis life. Summer often meant better skin. Darker, stressful periods usually meant worse skin.
That is personal experience, not proof that Vitamin D is a psoriasis cure.
The new SPL position is test-led: use a 25-hydroxyvitamin D blood test and work with a clinician if deficiency is possible.
Separate the four topics
The NIH Office of Dietary Supplements explains Vitamin D blood testing, sun exposure, intake, and safety limits.
Oral Vitamin D supplements, sunlight, topical Vitamin D analogues, and medical phototherapy are related topics, but they are not the same intervention.
The AAD phototherapy guide explains dermatologist-directed light therapy as a medical treatment option.
What the evidence says
A 2023 systematic review and meta-analysis looked at psoriasis and Vitamin D.
A separate systematic review and meta-analysis on Vitamin D supplementation for psoriasis concluded that supplementation results were not strong enough to treat it as a guaranteed psoriasis intervention.
That is why the public recommendation should be careful: test, correct deficiency with medical guidance, and avoid high-dose self-experimenting.
